I think everybody’s New Year Posts are going to start off with the same “I can’t believe it’s nearly 2018” – but can you actually believe that it’s nearly 2018? I say it every year but life really does go too quick, and every year seems to be getting better and better yet shorter and shorter. But I don’t think I’ve ever looked back on a year with the feeling that I couldn’t top it.
Exploring the Botanic Gardens in Mt Coot-tha was never on our list, in fact before we came to Brisbane we never knew that they were a thing. We visited on a cloudy, yet humid, Sunday afternoon not really expecting too much. It has been recommended to us before but on the other hand it was also described as ‘boring’ and something we didn’t need to see. However, these gardens ended up being one of our favourite experiences thus far.
On the way down to the Sunshine Coast last week, we were greeted by incredible views of three mountains in the distance. We had no idea what they were, but we knew we’d have to take a trip and discover what they were. The Glass House Mountains haven’t been mentioned to us before. If it wasn’t for travelling to Mooloolaba, it’s likely we would never have known about this gorgeous spot just off the motorway.
Another day, another possible stupid idea. We’ve been toying with the idea of buying skateboards since we got here. There’s skate parks pretty much everywhere and like surfing, skateboarding seems like a must over here… providing there’s no broken bones over the next year.
Surfing is hard, very bloody hard. Don’t get me wrong, I wasn’t expecting to leave as a professional or anything like that but I definitely wasn’t expecting it to be as difficult as it was. I had a few tantrums, not gonna lie, and I sunbathed on my surfboard for the majority of time we were there… oops! I had the whole day planned in my head. I had my camera all set, my GoPro and its head strap fully expecting an afternoon full of fun pictures and videos to share… let’s just say, it didn’t go to plan.
